Rancho Cordova Election Results 2008

The big news of the night was obviously the victory of Barack Obama over John McCain for President of the United States and voters in the County of Sacramento followed suit. Voter turnout was strong at 58.7% county-wide. For President, the County went for Obama 58% to 39% for McCain.

Presidential Race Tightens, Huge Turnout Expected

Polls are already open in 32 states for early voting and mant absentee ballots have been cast, but the votes won’t be counted until Tuesday. In response we’re conducting our own informal poll right here, right now. Vote for who you think will become the next President of the United States. Let’s see if Rancho Cordova can predict the outcome of the election.

State of the City Celebration

What time could be better to learn more about our local economy and our great city than right after elections? Community members will get that chance on Friday, November 7th when the first Rancho Cordova State of the City address is held. Everyone is invited to attend and tickets to the events can be purchased ahead of time here.

Mills Students Awarded Prudential Certificates

At a recent Folsom Cordova Unified School District board meeting several students were awarded Prudential Certificates of Merit of Achievement. The students were recognized for their hard work and innovation both inside and out of the classroom. Peter Maroon, Principal of Mills Middle School and Scott Meyer, the Social Studies and Leadership teacher can be seen in the group photo of this stellar group of students.

Sunriver Pancakes and Politics

Saturdays’ Pancakes and Politics breakfast was a syrupy success that included 20 local candidates and all the pancakes you could eat. The morning started off with questionable weather, but only a couple raindrops fell on the event. By 9:00 a.m. the sun was shining and everyone was enjoying their meals and conversations.

Groundwater Contamination Still a Concern for Fair Oaks Plume

On the first of this month, Aerojet and Fair Oaks Water District held a community meeting to reveal and discuss plans to drill a well in Fair Oaks for monitoring a plume of contaminated groundwater, and met with staunch opposition from a group of residents who live nearby the proposed site

Easton Development to be Built… Eventually

Another major redevelopment is in the works for the Rancho area. In July, the Sacramento County Planning Commission recommended approval of a 1,400-acre development by GenCorp Inc. known as Easton. The longer-term plan for Easton covers some 6,000 acres.

Thieves Destroy Hagan Haunted Mansion

The Hagan Haunted Mansion has been a Halloween institution for almost 15 years in Rancho Cordova. Local teens have been working diligently to have this years Mansion be bigger and better than ever. Unfortunately, they might not see their Mansion come to completion at all. Vandals broke into the Mansion and stole everything of value on Monday night.

Wall Street vs Main Street: Is a Bailout the Answer?

First there was Enron. At the time the largest failure of a public company ever. The executives became greedy and gambled on the deregulated energy market and lost, big time. Many people lost jobs, stock investments and confidence in government to regulate energy markets and corporate board rooms. Did we learn anything from that mess?
