Make no mistake about it, I love serving my community. As a City Council Member and Mayor in the City of Elk Grove, I get to do what I love most – serve people and neighborhoods. During my tenure on the Council, we have accomplished much. Just a few of these accomplishments include: reforming our entire city government, bringing good jobs to the community, reducing crime, strengthening our neighborhoods, and much, much more.

Having read the details of Measure B, what is clear is that it’s designed to keep taxes low and make them fair. First, it keeps taxes low: It does not increase tax rates at all. (Contrary to a recent rumor about increasing the tax on electricity bills, for example.) The fact is that Measure B would continue the current Utility Users’ Tax (UUT) at a rate of 2.5%. This rate is lower than those charged by 90% of the other 142 California cities who charge UUTs.

A man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly leading police on a chase along Highway 50. Authorities report that the man ran from police and reached speeds of more than 80 miles per hour. The man was eventually cornered in a home in a neighoborhood where police were able to detain him.

On Saturday, April 11th at just after 3 in the morning, police were called to Prospect Hill Drive in Gold River. When they arrived, they found an unidentified male victim lying in the street. The suspect, Daniel Ortega was standing nearby.

Every year in May, officers from around the country travel to Washington D.C. to pay their respects to fallen officers and their families during National Law Enforcement Memorial Week. This year, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and the Rancho Cordova Police Department will see Deputy Larry Canfields’ name added to the memorial wall. The cost of the trip, transportation of vehicles, and lodging is expected to be between $40,000 and $60,000- all of which will have to be paid for by the officers themselves.
