Working in collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service, students from Folsom Lake College’s Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) program will offer free income tax preparation assistance to the community. Community members can have help filing both their Federal and California state taxes electronically.
With a staggering number of Americans laid off and out of work during these tough economic times, many have opted to return to college in pursuit of a higher education. A majority are choosing to go back to school to acquire the needed skills that many employers are looking for in potential employees. With today’s competitive job market, many individuals already holding degrees are returning to college classrooms seeking further knowledge in hopes of re-entering the workforce after layoffs or for chosen career changes.
The Los Rios Community College District has been awarded a U.S. Department of Labor grant of more than $2 million for job-training programs geared towards careers in energy. The $2,037,399 grant was one of six federal grants designated for community colleges and counties statewide to apply to various job-training programs, including construction, nanotechnology and transportation.
Construction is now in full swing on Folsom Lake College’s regional Visual and Performing Arts Center (VAPAC), with crews making noticeable progress on the main stage and foundations.
