Construction Career Awareness Day Held for 1,750 Sacramento and San Joaquin Area Students

Today the Associated General Contractors of California and Granite Construction Company, along with 40 industry partners, hosted a Construction Career Awareness Day for 1750 high school students from around Sacramento-San Joaquin region.

On Saturday, March 28, 2009, over 2,800 cities and towns in 84 countries will turn off their lights and electrical appliances for one hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. This act will be in relation to the world’s first global wide election between Earth and global warming. Standard & Poor’s Upgrades Rancho Cordova’s Bond Rating to A+

A report issued by financial leader Standard & Poor’s, upgrades the City of Rancho Cordova by two steps to an A+ rating. “This is outstanding news for such a new city, especially in trying economic times,” said Dan Skoglund, Mayor of Rancho Cordova.

“This is a great recognition of the hard and conscientious work of our City Manager, Ted Gaebler, our Finance Director, Donna Silva, and the rest of the staff who works day in and day out to make our city fiscally sound,” the Mayor continued.

American River Grange Celebrates 135th Anniversary

Join the American River Grange in celebrating their 135th Anniversary and Rancho Cordova’s rich historic past. The opening ceremony begins at 10:30 on Saturday, March 21st and members of the community are invited to attend. Come ready to eat and learn more about the history of our great city. The American River Grange embodies the vibrant history of the Rancho Cordova area, long before we knew it as the thriving city it is today. This will be a great opportunity to introduce children of all ages to the lifestyles of previous generations and learn a little more about a very knowledgeable and active group in our community.

Rancho Cordova Celebrates Arbor Day With Tree Planting

The City is an active partner in the Greenprint initiative which includes 22 cities, Sacramento County, and three surrounding counties. Greenprint’s focal point is to double the region’s urban tree canopy by planting 5 million new trees by 2025. The four-year-old initiative was the vision of the Sacramento Tree Foundation. Council Member Budge was the Tree Foundation’s founding president and currently serves on the Greenprint steering committee.

Workshop for Rancho Cordova Women Interested in Leadership

The Sacramento Regional Chapter of California Women Lead is holding an Appointments Training Workshop for women in our community who want to become appointed to a local board or commission. The event will be held on Monday, March 9th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rancho Cordova City Hall (2729 Prospect Park Dr).

River Bend Park Acquires New Land

The Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks has recently purchased 10 acres of natural habitat within River Bend Park (formally Goethe Park) for $25,000. The property was purchased last September from Camp Fire U.S.A. , a youth development organization that currently serves nearly 750,000 children nation wide.

Rancho Cordova Trailer Home Lost in Blaze

A fire destroyed a trailer home in Rancho Cordova Thursday afternoon. All 6 people who were inside the trailer at the time are safe, though one woman, an elderly blind woman, was rescued from the inferno by the park manager, Joe Castaneda.
