
January 1, 2011 marks the start of new state-mandated building codes in the City of Rancho Cordova. The updated codes will apply to building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical construction in the City. There will be no fee increases with the updates and changes.

Judge Raymond M. Cadei, judge of the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, has overruled a legal challenge to the City of Rancho Cordova Redevelopment Agency’s (RDA) use of eminent domain. In an effort to implement its redevelopment plan and to eliminate blighted conditions along Folsom Boulevard in the City of Rancho Cordova, the RDA filed an eminent domain action in 2009 to acquire an approximate nine-acre site owned by the Lily Company. The Lily Company filed a legal challenge to the RDA’s legal authority to use eminent domain, and Judge Cadei held a seven-day trial on that challenge in October.

At the City Council meeting on November 1, staff presented some conceptual ideas for a Gateway monument structure which would serve the purpose of welcoming people into the City.

This year’s final Rancho Cordova Neighborhood Walk with the Mayor will be on Saturday, October 23rd, at the Rancho Cordova Elementary School, 2561 Chassella Way. Light refreshments will be served at 8:30 a.m. and the one-mile leisurely walk will start at about 9 a.m.

The final “Victory Is Sweet” ice cream social that celebrates Rancho Cordova’s 2010 All-America City title will be Saturday, October 9th at Lincoln Village Community Park, 3480 Routier Road. From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or while supplies last, City staff will hand out complimentary frozen treats, ice cream, and commemorative bookmarks.
The fourth in a series of five ice cream parties will be hosted by the City of Rancho Cordova on Saturday, October 2nd at the Mills Middle School track area, 10439 Coloma Road ,from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or while quantities last. Complimentary ice cream, frozen treats, and commemorative bookmarks will be handed out by Rancho Cordova staff to celebrate the City’s 2010 All-America City award.
The third annual Business Walk took place in July Rancho Cordova. Co-sponsored by the City of Rancho Cordova, the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce, and the Sacramento Metro Chamber a contingent of 52 business and civic leaders visited 176 businesses to make introductions and receive input about the current local business climate. One hundred-sixty-five businesses leaders responded. Results of that survey have recently been compiled into a formal report.

The City of Rancho Cordova is the recipient of a 2010 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence presented annually by the League of California Cities. The award was announced at the League’s Conference in San Diego.
The prestigious Helen Putnam award is given for the best and brightest municipal programs that deliver innovative and outstanding services to residents. Rancho Cordova was selected for its Annual Corporate Report.

Cat and dog owners can get free rabies vaccinations for their pets and help set a new official record in the Guinness Book of World Records on World Rabies Day. On Saturday, September 25th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., veterinarians, the Sacramento Valley Veterinary Medical Association, the City of Rancho Cordova along with other regional Animal Services Divisions will work together to vaccinate dogs and cats.
