Every year in May, officers from around the country travel to Washington D.C. to pay their respects to fallen officers and their families during National Law Enforcement Memorial Week. This year, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and the Rancho Cordova Police Department will see Deputy Larry Canfields’ name added to the memorial wall. The cost of the trip, transportation of vehicles, and lodging is expected to be between $40,000 and $60,000- all of which will have to be paid for by the officers themselves. Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Sexual Assault Bureau detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect they believe is responsible for two sexual assaults which occurred on the Cordova High School campus. The first assault occurred on December 11, 2008, shortly before 8:00 a.m.
City of Rancho Cordova employees were the recipients of the 2009 Outstanding Public Service Award that was presented at the recent Cordova Community Council’s Mardi Gras Party and Awards Ceremony. For the 10th year, the Cordova Community Council recognized outstanding volunteers in several categories for their public service contributions to the Rancho Cordova community.

VSP’s charitable Sight for Students program announced it helped the 500,000th child since its start in 1997. Sight for Students offers qualified families with vouchers to visit one of 25,000 approved doctors that provide comprehensive eye exams and identify vision issues. Doctors will also prescribe glasses. The program has funded nearly $100 million in free eyecare and eyewear for low-income, uninsured and underinsured children.
