If strength is indeed found in numbers, then last Wednesday’s event by the Rancho Cordova Alliance of Neighborhoods (RCAN) to welcome newly installed RCPD Chief Doug Diamond was a good example. The event, attended by representatives from eight Rancho neighborhoods including Anatolia, Sunriver, Cap Village, Lincoln Village, Stonecreek, La Loma, Sunridge, and Cordova Towne welcomed Diamond as their guest speaker. Diamond took questions on a wide range of subjects, including the effects of the ongoing budget impacts to patrols, crime statistics, and the role of the Problem Oriented Police (POP) program.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and law enforcement-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized against crime.

The Rancho Cordova Police Department received a call at 4:52 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21st reporting that a resident woke up to a man rummaging through an unoccupied bedroom in her home. The man ran out of the home and the residents were able to chase and detain the man, later identified as Joel Mendoza, just a few houses away.

The streets of Anatolia were busy with Rancho Cordova Police officers on Wednesday night. At 7:57 p.m. the Rancho Cordova Police Department received a phone call regarding suspicious activity at the southern end of the neighborhood that resulted in one arrest.

On July 19, 2010, at 8:03 a.m., Rancho Cordova Police Department officers responded to the report that a bicyclist had been struck by a car in the area of White Rock Road and Quality Drive. Officers arrived and found a 61-year-old male lying in the street and suffering from severe injuries. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

On July 18, 2010, at 7:57 p.m., Rancho Cordova Police Department officers responded to the report of a collision between two motorcyclists in the area of Freestone Way and Edington Drive. Officers arrived and found a 19-year-old male lying in the street suffering from severe injuries. Paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

On Monday, July 13th the City Council of Rancho Cordova considered a proposal to tax marijuana sale and cultivation within city limits. The City has until August 6th to place a measure on the ballot for voters.
Former Rancho Cordova Police Chief, Reuben Meeks, could face charges of impersonating a police officer. Meeks allegedly used his police issued lights and siren to pursue and apprehend a driver on Monday during a chase that reportedly reached speeds of 90 miles per hour.
