Thunderbirds Will Return To Mather For ‘09 Air Show

Last year, nearly 80,000 people attended the California Capital Airshow in Mather. 2009’s event is expected to bring in just as many visitors when it is held on September 12 and 13 at the Mather Airport. Joining other demonstrations, the airshow will welcome the Air Force Thunderbirds flight-demonstration team. The team will be headlining the event with their second appearance at the California Capital Airshow.



Rancho Cordova’s EdFund Supports Families in Need

EdFund’s charity committee decided to raise food and funds for Mather Community Campus during the weeks before Thanksgiving. Employees came together and donated a truck load of food (literally). Over 500 employees donated enough perishable and non perishable food items to feed the Sacramento Area Housing Center’s Mather Community Campus’ 44 families, including 95 children in need.



Mather Sports Center Open During Construction

The $15 million complex now includes softball and baseball fields, an outdoor basketball court, and a roller hockey court- all for the enjoyment of area residents. The parking lot was completed on Tuesday, November 11 and while no exact date has been set for completion of the project, everyone is hopeful to see an end in the next couple weeks.



Veterans Day Celebration

Tuesday, November 11 is Veterans Day. The City of Rancho Cordova and the VA Northern California Health Care System is hosting the third annual Veterans Day Celebration at the Veterans Memorial Plaza (10535 Hospital Way, Mather) at 10:00 a.m. The community is invited to attend the event and to show their gratitude to the courageous men and women who have honored, protected and sacrificed for our great nation.



Local Troops Prepare to Ship Out to Afghanistan

A ceremony Wednesday morning at Mather Air Base marked the deployment of 70 guardsmen fom C Company of the 1-168th General Support Aviation Battalion to Afghanistan. The guardsmen will be completing a year long tour after nearly a month of training in Oklahoma.
