The Cordova Recreation and Park District announced this week it was recently awarded a $100,000 Footprint Field grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation. Footprint Field grants are awarded for the installation of a synthetic field surface from FieldTurf. The grant will be used to install a synthetic soccer field at the award winning Mather Sports Center.

From front somersaults to front flips, the floor gymnastics program can be challenging for all levels of ability and provide a strong floor background in gymnastics. Beginning with the basics, curriculum will progress at a pace set by the student’s ability and eventually include aerial work, competitive form, front and back handsprings and flips.

tretch, breathe, move and groove in Tiny Yogi’s, a super fun preschool yoga program. Children ages 3 to 5 will learn the basics of yoga through music, stories, asana (yoga postures) and light meditation. Yoga is known to reduce stress, promote optimism, support activity and decrease childhood obesity. Tiny Yogis should wear clothing they can move in and bring a blanket or yoga mat to each class.

The Cordova Recreation and Park District’s adult sports leagues at the Mather Sports Center are gearing up for the Winter 2011 season! We have Roster/Registration packets available at the Sports Center for Softball, Basketball, and Co-ed Volleyball. Leagues will begin play in January.

Cordova Community Center will be the site for some winter fun for children ages 5 through 13 on December 20 through 30 on Mondays through Thursdays. At the Cordova Recreation and Park District’s Winter Day Camp, children will have a great time doing arts and crafts, sports, cooking projects, games and more!
The Mather Sports Center Annual Stocking Stuffer sale begins on Monday, December 13, 2010. This year’s sale will roll back prices to the 2004 level, creating an even deeper discount than the usual 20-25%.

Cordova Recreation and Park District is hosting this special event on Wednesday, November 10th from 11:00 am-12:15 pm at the Cordova Senior Activities Center. Veterans of all ages and from all branches of the military are welcome to attend.
Fish on! Cordova Recreation and Park District is hosting a free Fishing Frenzy informational clinic on Saturday, November 6th from 9:00am-12:00pm. This event takes place at Hagan Community Park in the rear pond next to the barn. Admission is free for the entire family.
