David Sander, Ph.D., Vice Mayor of the Rancho Cordova City Council, has been elected to the National Civic League (NCL) Board of Directors.
The 15-member board provides leadership and guidance for the nonpartisan nonprofit organization that promotes civic engagement and community building. Founded in 1894, NCL is in the forefront to make local governments more accountable and community members more active in planning and problem solving.

Robert J. McGarvey and David Sander were sworn in as Mayor and Vice Mayor, respectively, of the Rancho Cordova City Council at a meeting on December 20th. Both have been members of the City Council since Rancho Cordova incorporated in 2003.

January 1, 2011 marks the start of new state-mandated building codes in the City of Rancho Cordova. The updated codes will apply to building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical construction in the City. There will be no fee increases with the updates and changes.

Judge Raymond M. Cadei, judge of the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, has overruled a legal challenge to the City of Rancho Cordova Redevelopment Agency’s (RDA) use of eminent domain. In an effort to implement its redevelopment plan and to eliminate blighted conditions along Folsom Boulevard in the City of Rancho Cordova, the RDA filed an eminent domain action in 2009 to acquire an approximate nine-acre site owned by the Lily Company. The Lily Company filed a legal challenge to the RDA’s legal authority to use eminent domain, and Judge Cadei held a seven-day trial on that challenge in October.

Rancho Cordova businesses may be eligible for significant tax savings through the newly-established Enterprise Zone. The program will be explained at the Enterprise Zone Breakfast Seminar on Wednesday November 17th, at Rancho Cordova City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Hosted by the City and the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce, the free seminar includes a complimentary breakfast.
