The Cordova Recreation and Park District’s adult sports leagues at the Mather Sports Center are gearing up for the Winter 2011 season! We have Roster/Registration packets available at the Sports Center for Softball, Basketball, and Co-ed Volleyball. Leagues will begin play in January.

Rancho Cordova Mayor Robert J. McGarvey and Vice Mayor David Sander have been awarded the Diamond Level Certificate of Achievement in Leadership by the National League of Cities (NLC). Only 30 elected officials nationwide reached the top ranking this year.

Soroptimist International, in conjunction with Jewish World Watch’s Solar Cooker Project, is committed to protecting Darfur refugee women and girls from horrific forms of violence. Women and girls who have fled the genocide of Darfur, Sudan are particularly vulnerable while performing the critical task of collecting firewood for cooking. The mission of the Solar Cooker Project is to reduce the frequency of these terrible crimes by providing women from refugee camps with an alternative cooking option: the solar cooker.

On Wednesday, December 15th, Rancho Cordova Council Member Dan Skoglund and Vice-Mayor Robert McGarvey visited a local retailer and purchased gift for at-risk kids. Each year the family of Council Member Dan Skoglund, in partnership with the Folsom Cordova Community Partnership (The Partnership), organizes a Toy Drive to collect toys/gifts for children, age’s birth to seventeen, who otherwise would not receive anything. The families they serve often are faced with desperate decisions, such as buying food for their children, paying monthly rent and dealing with day-to-day challenges which often increase during the pressures of the holiday season.

Local Kaiser Permanente Delivers Shoes and Socks to Second Graders
