Weekend Activities Include Greek Festival and Gold Rush Days

There are all kinds of family friendly activities to attend this weekend. Celebrate your inner Greek, step back in time, or check out hundreds of works of art by local artists.

The 47th annual Greek Festival is a staple event for Labor Day weekend in Sacramento. This year’s event will be held from September 3rd through the 5th at the Sacramento Convention Center. The event is free on Friday from 11:00 to 3:00 and regular admission is $5.00, although you can get a $2 off coupon here. Enjoy a cultural display, Greek food, dancing, a marketplace, cooking demonstrations and more.

If you’re a fan of old western movies or have always wondered what it would have been like to be a resident of Sacramento when gold was king, visit Old Sacramento this weekend for a free, educational experience. More than 200 tons of dirt will be lining the streets and dancers, musicians and cowboys will roam the streets. You will be able to pan for gold, ride in wagons or carriages, and visit the ethnic village. For more information, please see the official website.

Chalk it Up! is celebrating its 20th anniversary this weekend at Fremont Park in Sacramento. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday you can enjoy the sidewalk chalk art of hundreds of artists. In addition to the art, there will be live music, a beer garden, food, crafts, and a creative space just for kids.

The NAACP Rhythm and Blues Festival is being held on September 4th at Cal Expo from 12 to 10 p.m. General admission is $20 and includes gospel choirs, food vendors, live music, face painting, and the Sacramento Blues Society.

If there’s an event that you think should be listed, please share the details as a comment.
