
The Falcon’s Eye Theatre at Folsom Lake College calls for actors from the community to audition for its fall production of Mark Brown’s dynamic stage adaptation of the classic Jules Verne novel, Around the World in 80 Days.

Residents of Rancho Cordova are invited to apply for appointment to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Outreach Community Advisory Board (SOCAB).
The purpose of the SOCAB is to provide collaboration and communication in establishing and implementing programs that identify conflict and ways to eliminate it and to address concerns and issues regarding the Sheriff’s Department and the communities it serves.

If you love to fish, take the time to pass it on to a child or teen! Cordova Recreation and Park District, through a grant from the National Recreation and Park Association, will be offering the “Take Me Fishing” program. A volunteer orientation program will be held on August 26, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Cordova Community Center, 2197 Chase Drive Rancho Cordova.

Bananas are often an unappreciated fruit. From banana splits to banana bread, this versatile treat is finally being celebrated in the Sacramento community in the first ever Banana Festival that runs all weekend. If a Broadway musical is more your style, The Fair Oaks Theatre is hosting “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”. The entire family will appreciate the musical comedy. The GFWC American River Women’s Club is hosting a game day and afternoon tea. Dust off those dominoes and prepare for an afternoon of fun.

Regular registration for the United States Youth Volleyball League ends on August 15, 2010. Folsom, West Sacramento and Sacramento are all hosting leagues this fall. The season runs from the beginning of September through the beginning of November.

Synthia A. Smith, a business executive, has been appointed to the Rancho Cordova Planning Commission by City Council Member Linda Budge. Smith fills the vacancy on the Commission that was created when Thomas Moe moved from the area. The term expires in December.

In honor of California’s Aviation History and the Fifth Annual California Capitol Airshow, Assemblymember Alyson Huber is holding an essay contest and invites all elementary, middle and high school students to enter their original essays. Three winners will receive tickets to this year’s California Capital Airshow for their entire classroom and will be honored on stage at the airshow by Assemblymember Alyson Huber.
Wayne Hart is a Program Manager for Blue Shield of California. Prior to this position he worked as a Project Manager for VSP in Rancho Cordova for 15 years. He’s a 10 year resident of the City of Rancho Cordova and lives in the Stonecreek neighborhood with his wife Stacy and 9 month old son Hayden. Wayne and his wife are expecting another child soon.
