
Rancho Cordova Mayor Ken Cooley will begin his Saturday, August 28th, Neighborhood Walk at the Cordova Gardens Elementary School, 2400 Dawes Street. Light refreshments will be served at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 9 a.m.

Weekend activities include Wet N Woofy, the Yolo County Fair and a free concert in Rusch Park.

Many hands made light work of another Cordova Pride project. On Saturday, August 7, 2010, volunteers for the VINS, First Covenant Church of Rancho Cordova and the Rotary Interact Club came together to give another Rancho Cordova homeowner help to get the front of her home back in shape after her illness and subsequent recovery.

The Sacramento County Animal Shelter is hosting its 4th annual “Kitty Palooza” feline adopt-a-thon event on Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22 from noon to 4:30 p.m. at the Animal Shelter at 3839 Bradshaw Road. The shelter is inundated and this year; almost 200 cats and kittens will be available for adoption for a reduced rate of $40 for kittens, and cats over one year of age are free, with a donation appreciated.
Congresswoman Doris Matsui announced today that California State University, Sacramento’s Student Support Services (SSS) Program will receive an award of $275,940 from the Department of Education. These funds were awarded through a competitive grant program and provide support and assistance to low-income, first-generation, or disabled college students in order to ensure they remain in school and graduate. SSS Program services may include instruction in basic study skills, tutorial services, personal counseling, financial aid assistance, career guidance, and mentoring.
