Sacramento County Teachers of the Year 2011 to Be Announced September 1st
The Sacramento area’s biggest annual “back to school” event takes place Wednesday, September 1st. Local school district officials, civic leaders, parents and students will gather to honor 15 individuals chosen as school district Teachers of the Year 2011. Two of those educators will be selected as Sacramento County Teachers of the Year 2011 and will advance to the statewide competition. California’s Teachers of the Year will be announced in November 2010.
The annual county-wide Teachers of the Year recognition banquet is set for Wednesday, Sept. 1st, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West Hotel, 2200 Harvard Street, Sacramento.
At the banquet each of the 15 teachers will be escorted by his or her superintendent and principal, and will be introduced by a student. Eleven school districts from throughout the county, including the Sacramento County Office of Education, are participating in this year’s program.
Interviews with district Teachers of the Year will be available September 1st between 6–7 p.m. and after 8:45 p.m. Names of the top two teachers will be announced at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The Sacramento County Teachers of the Year Program is presented by the Sacramento County Office of Education in partnership with Maloof Sports and Entertainment, Intel Folsom, and the Sacramento Scottish Rite Bodies of Freemasonry. All of the 15 local teacher honorees will be recognized during a special halftime presentation February 4, 2011, at ARCO Arena when the Sacramento Kings host the San Antonio Spurs.
Representing the Folsom Cordova Unified School District is Sarah Kirby-Gonzalez, a fifth grade teacher at Navigator Elementary.
