Meet the Candidates: Paul Tassinari

Last week was the deadline for candidates to file to run for Rancho Cordova City Council. After the filing deadline at 5pm Friday, August 6th we announced the four candidates who had filed their paperwork to run and were cleared by Sacramento County as registered voters and residents of the City of Rancho Cordova. Two of the candidates may be well known to you as they have served on the City Council for the past 8 years. Linda Budge and Dan Skoglund are seeking re-election for another 4 year term. The two challengers Wayne Hart and Paul Tassinari are relative unknowns, however today we’ll introduce you to one of them.

Paul Tassinari, 44 years old, is a longtime resident of the Rancho Cordova area. He was born at Mather Air Force Base and raised in Rancho Cordova. His father was a 24 year veteran of the Air Force who served at Mather Field. Paul and his wife Rohana and two sons Adam and Amir live in the Meadows neighborhood North of Folsom Blvd. Except for a 3 year period from 1995-1998 where Paul lived in Malaysia, where he met his wife, he has lived in Rancho Cordova. Paul attended Cordova Gardens, Mitchell Middle School and graduated from Cordova High in 1984. His two boys Amir and Adam, currently attend Cordova Gardens and Mitchell Middle School. They are in the 6th and 8th grade classes there.

Paul describes himself as a stay at home dad who is a Board Member of the Rancho Cordova Little League, is involved in the RCPD PAL program, a BloodSource blood donor, active parent in Boy Scout Troop #363, a volunteer at both boys’ schools, a volunteer for the VA Hospital lunchtime reading program, and a volunteer handyman for the Grange Hall where the Boy Scout meetings are held.

When asked he’ll tell you that he wants Rancho Cordova to be a place where kids have safe recreational opportunities and seniors have activities to keep them active, like Bingo. He believes Gold River, despite their own beliefs, is Rancho Cordova and should be in the City of Rancho Cordova boundaries. He wants more activities for kids in Rancho Cordova like a bowling alley, movie theater, baseball batting cages etc. Otherwise, he says, “they’ll be writing on the walls.”

Paul has never run for or held public office before. He explains his campaign as a grassroots effort as he walks neighborhoods and asks residents what they want for Rancho Cordova. He stated that he doesn’t plan to raise much money for his campaign to buy yard signs etc. because, “there are better things people can do with their money”, he said. Paul has four older brothers and sisters who grew up in Rancho Cordova and as a longtime resident believes people who have lived in Cordova for a while will know the name Tassinari.

We will be continuing our series of Meet the Candidates later this week with a profile of Wayne Hart, the other challenger for the Rancho Cordova City Council. In the upcoming weeks we will also ask the candidates to answer questions about their experience, qualifications, and interests related to running for Rancho Cordova City Council. If you have specific questions for the candidates, ask them here in the comments, or send us an e-mail at editor @ ranchocordovapost.com.
