Man Arrested After Breaking Into Home and Leaving Behind Backpack Filled with Stolen Property

The Rancho Cordova Police Department received a call  at 4:52 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21st reporting that a resident woke up to a man rummaging through an unoccupied bedroom in her home. The man ran out of the home and the residents were able to chase and detain the man, later identified as Joel Mendoza, just a few houses away.

When Mendoza fled the home on Centaur Court in Lincoln Village, he left behind a backpack full of stolen property. Sgt. Pete James of the Rancho Cordova Police Department said that detectives have been able to locate four additional victims  from the stolen items found in the backpack. Two of those victims live in the Sunriver Neighborhood where there has been a recent string of car break ins.

Mendoza has been arrested for possession of stolen property and burglary.
