Barbecue Sparks Apartment Blaze Leaving Two Families Homeless

A fire in a Rancho Cordova apartment complex has left two families without homes and many other without utilities this weekend.

The fire is thought to have started on the second floor of an apartment complex on Bishop’s Court on Saturday afternoon. Fire investigators say the fire quickly spread to the roof and first floor of the building.

It is thought that a charcoal barbecue on the patio of the second floor apartment created the blaze after being used earlier in the day. The resident thought the charcoals had been extinguished and it had been left unattended.

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion and one resident suffered minor injuries to her arm.
