Fireworks Stolen From Cordova Neighborhood Church Youth Group Fireworks Booth

Thieves broke in to the storage unit at Cordova Neighborhood Church last night and stole nearly all of the fireworks from the youth group’s fundraiser. Bryce Cooley, Youth Pastor at Cordova Neighborhood Church, says that the booth was closed and locked up by 10:15 Thursday night. When he arrived this morning, he knew something was wrong when he saw a fireworks box in the parking lot.

The thieves broke in to the storage container located on the church property and took all the fireworks of value, leaving only opened boxes in their wake.

The fireworks booth is the main fundraiser for the Cordova Neighborhood youth group. The money raised helps pay for the youth to attend summer camp. This year, because summer camp was held earlier in the year than normal, some of the kids took out loans from the church to pay for camp. They were working at the booth to repay their loans.

Right now, the group is out between $8,000 and $10,000. They have inventoried what was lost and have sent the necessary paperwork to Phantom Fireworks. Cooley expects Phantom to have a new supply of fireworks ready by this afternoon. Now the goal is to sell enough to pay for the fireworks that were stolen and the group will have to do further fundraising to pay for summer camp.

Cordova Neighborhood Church is located at 10600 Coloma Road in Rancho Cordova. If you have yet to buy your fireworks for the holiday weekend, please consider supporting this group. The booth is expected to be fully stocked with fireworks by this afternoon and will be selling them through out the weekend.

Thank you for getting the news out about this. Theives, it’s not too late to return all that you took and reform your ways. You stole from youth. Shame on you.

The church’s insurance won’t pay for the stolen portion? There is no insurance/forgiveness from the firework company for situations like this? Seems strange since there are 4/5 on the news each year.

So far the word is that insurance won’t be covering it. It would be wonderful to see that change, but that’s the word for now. If anyone hears differently, please do inform.

  4. [...] a purchase anyway, please consider going to 10600 Coloma Road in Rancho Cordova. Also, see the Rancho Cordova Post for more details. I think News 10 also came out to run a story. Let’s respond together. Feel [...]
