Fatal Collision on Sunrise Boulevard

Rancho Cordova Police Department officers responded to the report of a two-vehicle collision on Sunrise Boulevard south of Kiefer Boulevard Wednesday evening. Officers arrived and found a white full-size Ford pick up truck and a red full-size Ford pick up truck which had been involved in a head-on collision.

The white truck was occupied by an unidentified male who appeared to be in his 60’s; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The red truck was occupied by a 20-year-old male driver and a 50-year-old female passenger. Both occupants suffered major injuries; they were transported to local hospitals where they are in critical condition.

According to witnesses, the white truck was travelling southbound on Sunrise Boulevard when it crossed over the center divider and struck the red truck which was travelling northbound on Sunrise Boulevard.

The cause of the crash is unknown. Investigators with the RCPD Major Accident Investigation Team will attempt to determine what caused the driver of the white truck to cross the center divider. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash, and did not talk to officers at the scene, is urged to call RCPD Traffic Unit Detective Ron Brazell at (916) 875-9623.
