Sacramento County Budget Hearings Begin Today

Sacramento County’s budget hearings will be held this week as the Board of Supervisors review the recommended budget for the fiscal year 2010-11. The recommended $3.5 billion dollar spending plan provides for all county services including Airports, Child Protective Services, Landfill Operations, Property Tax, Public Health, Regional Parks, Sheriff, Transportation, and many others.

In the eight weeks since the proposed numbers were released, budgets have been reworked, including increases in allocations to some programs such as the Sheriff, Probation, Assessor, District Attorney, Animal Care, Regional Parks and Mental Health.

“The loss of revenue from local taxes and the state, combined with increased cost of doing business, means we have no other choice but to reduce services and staff. These deep reductions will affect services in many areas, however we continue to seek new methods of service delivery to help mitigate the impacts,” said Interim County Executive Steve Szalay.

The hearings begin Monday, June 14, at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacramento County Administration Building located at 700 H Street. Following is the presentation schedule for the budget hearings. Hearings will continue through the week until the Board makes their final decisions and adopts the budget.
