Get Ready to Vote in the Primary Election June 8
Are you registered to vote? Do you know where your polling place is? These questions and more can be answered by the Sacramento County elections office before you head out to vote tomorrow.
The city council positions up for election in Rancho Cordova won’t be filled until November, but other important seats that affect our area will be up for grabs. In addition to the primary election, which affects which candidates for state and federal seats get to move on to the general election in November, seats within Sacramento County and some propositions are ready to be decided with tomorrow’s vote.
Bret Daniels, Scott Jones and Jim Cooper are named as candidates for Sacramento County Sheriff; Rancho Cordova’s Supervisor for Sacramento County, Don Nottoli, will also be vying to stay seated on the board against candidate Lovie Kirkland. Propositions 13 through 17 will also be decided tomorrow; a detailed analysis of each, as well as state candidate information, can be found here.
Sacramento County has also made verifying your voter registration and finding your polling place easy. To look up your voter registration, simply fill out this form with your street number, zip code and birth date, and you will have instant access to your polling place and voter guide. If you are more interested in finding your polling place, the county has also created a simple search engine that will locate polling places according to the street of residence here.
If you believe you are registered but can’t find your information, don’t worry just yet– the elections office tells people who believe they are registered to go to their polling place and cast a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots will be counted separately to ensure these voters are registered.
You can cast your ballot at a polling place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. tomorrow, and those with an absentee ballot can submit them to ballot drop-off locations during normal business hours. Rancho Cordova City Hall, located at 2729 Prospect Park Drive, is a qualified drop-off location and will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow.
Sacramento County has made following the election easier as well. No longer do voters need to sit in front of the television all night to find out the latest polling place results: the county will be posting results updates online throughout the night, and thanks to a federal grant, Smartphone users can now access up-to-date information on a mobile website the county has created exclusively for elections results on the go.
