Rancho Cordova Celebrates Arbor Day with Tree Plantings

Two redbud trees were planted on the Rancho Cordova City Hall campus to conclude the City’s Arbor Day celebration on March 11th. Participating in the ceremony were Shawn Colvin (left) from the Sacramento Tree Foundation; Cyrus Abhar, the City’s Public Works Director; Rancho Cordova Vice Mayor Robert McGarvey; and Todd Humphrey, the City’s Facilities Manager. Rancho Cordova is an active partner in the Greenprint initiative which focal point is to double the region’s urban tree canopy by planting 5 million new trees by 2025.

The two trees, which were gifts from the Sacramento Tree Foundation, were planted by a new pathway in the southeast corner of the campus. The pathway was the Eagle Scout project of Lawrence Goedich and is the final segment of a half-mile walking trail that encircles the City Hall grounds. SMUD energy saving trees are available free of charge by contacting the Sacramento Tree Foundation at (916) 924-8733 x121.
