Rancho Chamber Raises $8,000 for St. John’s Shelter
Last month, the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual inauguration. This year, the event was held at the brand new Cordova Restaurant and Casino. The restaurant and casino is open 24 hours a day and serves food until 2 a.m. The attendees of the Chamber event were the first to experience the luxury of the Cordova Restaurant and Casino.
Over 150 people attended the inauguration with guests coming from all parts of the business community. In addition to installing their new officers, the Chamber also raised approximately $8,000 for St. John’s Shelter through donations, live auction and a raffle. St. John’s Shelter provides shelter and support for approximately 112 women and children. The cost to provide their services is about $25 per day. Some of the many services St. John’s provides include: case management, classes and workshops, drug and alcohol treatment programs, many types of counseling, and self development classes.
The difference between St. John’s and other shelters is that St. John’s offers all of their services under one roof. Women aren’t required to attend classes located on the other side of town and because they are living on location, it’s easier to stick with the program. After the initial 90 day program, there is a period of After Care that allows them the guidance and support they need as they integrate back in to society.
The Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce isn’t new to supporting local. They have raised funds for various organizations at prior events, including a community wide golf tournament held last year. Of the future, Chamber CEO, Jane Daly says, “We hope to have an ongoing relationship with St. John’s, since they are our neighbors on the Mather Campus”.
