Enjoy Locally Grown Produce and Other Goods At Local Farmers Market
Locavores will have another activity to add to their weekend schedule beginning this Saturday, March 6th. The popular Certified Farmers Market at Sunrise Mall is moving from the Citrus Heights location to right here in Rancho Cordova.
The four mile move from Sunrise Mall to the Sunrise light rail station comes after the farmers market and Sunrise Mall couldn’t reach an agreement regarding the market’s lease. Officials of the California Certified Farmers Markets believe the move will be beneficial for the community. They are hoping the relocation of the market to the light rail station will encourage shoppers to take public transit instead of driving. They are also hopeful that the light rail station could be a long term solution. Market attendance has ranged from hundreds of shoppers during the winter to thousands during the spring and summer.
There are about 20 vendors at the farmers market in the winter and 40 in the summer. Shoppers will find everything from eggs, cheese and locally grown produce to flowers and other products. The market hours will be the same as they have been at the Sunrise Mall location: 8 am. till noon on Saturdays.
Shoppers can also visit Soil Born Farms located at 2140 Chase Drive. Their farm stand will be opening May 29th and will be open on Saturdays through the summer from 8:30-1:00. All produce from Soil Born Farms is certified organic and is grown on local farms. If you’d like to stop by the farm stand before the official opening this year, join the community for the Veggie Chase and Day on the Farm on May 23rd to see their first harvest of the season.
