Council Members voted unanimously Monday night to begin the process of transforming parcels located near the Kilgore Cemetery into a new facility for the Rancho Cordova Police Department.
The parcels, one located on Kilgore Road next to Kilgore Cemetery and the other located on Gold Tailings Court behind the cemetery, will be the future site of an expanded area for the police department to call home. The area currently contains a commercial building that houses RSF Electronics, and the city is planning on remodelling the building into an 11,700 square-foot facility that will provide light automotive space, storage and office space for the police department.
Council’s decision Monday night authorized the city manager to enlist Descor Builders, a Rancho Cordova contractor, to begin the project management for the new facility. According to the contract, the cost of their services will amount to no more than $260,000, and Descor will provide pre-construction, construction and post-construction services for the city. The contractors also stated in the contract that they will be working with the architects, Calpo Hom and Dong of Sacramento, to achieve Silver LEED “green building” certification for the new police station.
Rancho Cordova already owned the property on Kilgore Road and the parcel located at 2880 Gold Tailings Circle was acquired by the city for $895,000 in January. The city’s contract with Descor Builders indicates a completion date for the project of July 1, 2011.
