Sacramento County 4-H Presents “On the Wild Side”
Teaching young children about the environment, building an enjoyment for nature and helping teens to learn the values of leadership and service are goals of Sacramento County 4-H’s On The Wild Side program. Throw in the heartwarming examples of volunteerism that grow each year from members of the community and you have the perfect recipe for something truly unique and educational.
Sacramento County 4-H’s On The Wild Side program brings together children, teen teachers, university students and other adult volunteers to Lake Vera near Nevada City, to learn about the environment and experience the importance of water in nature and to humans. Through an inquiry-based learning process, teen educators foster a sense of conservation and environmental stewardship in children from urban settings.
Sacramento County 4-H is planning for this year’s On The Wild Side and seeks help from everyday folks in the area. They are looking for high school students to serve in teaching roles for elementary school students, adult volunteers, and help with donations and fundraising. All are welcome to participate and help the children of the Sacramento region learn about, enjoy and appreciate the environment.
Come participate with Sacramento County 4-H and sleep under the stars. It’s a chance to give back to the community. Meetings begin in February at the UC Cooperative Extension office at 4145 Branch Center Road in Sacramento. You can visit here, or call Rita Boyes at 916-875-6530 to learn more.
