Join Roots and Horizons for National Mentoring Month

January is National Mentoring Month. In honor of this month the Roots and Horizons team would like to extend an invitation to the community to attend our Pizza Night at Straw Hat Pizza on Mather Road. Half of the proceeds will go to the Roots and Horizons Mentoring Program as long as you mention our name when you order. The event will run all day long on January 26th from 11am-10pm. Someone from our team will be there wearing a yellow mentoring t-shirt, so feel free to find us and ask questions!

Roots and Horizons is a local mentoring program that matches adult volunteers with youth, ages 8-17, who have an incarcerated parent. They spend time together for one hour a week for a full year. Our mentors and mentees are matched based on interests and personality. They can do a variety of activities together because we are a community based program. The staff also coordinates events and field trips to bring together all of our participants.

There are so many youth still waiting for a mentor and are excited to get matched with one! We are always looking for mentors to match with these great kids! Please consider our program if you are looking for a volunteer opportunity or just looking to give back to your community. It is a great program that not only leaves a lasting impression on the child but also affects the mentor’s life in a large way as well.

If you would like more information about the Roots and Horizons Mentoring Program please contact Jeanine Knicker at jknicker@thefccp.org or 916-361-8684 ext. 245. Or you can check out our website at www.thefccp.org. Thanks for reading!
