Mayor Ken Cooley Speaks on Future of Rancho Cordova at Luncheon

The Rancho Cordova Lunch is a fairly new lunch time event that the Cordova Community Council and the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce host. Both organizations have hosted their own luncheons and events separately, but are now realizing the benefits of a larger community lunch. On Friday January 15, the guest speaker at the Rancho Cordova Lunch was Rancho Cordova Mayor,  Ken Cooley.

This is Ken Cooley’s second term as Mayor after being elected in 2002 as an original council member. In addition to the many other positions he holds, including that of Chair at the Sacramento Transport Authority, Cooley is a Rancho Cordova resident of 33 years.

Speaking to a group of about 130 lunch guests, Mayor Cooley praised the city for it’s growth and planning for the future. Mayor Cooley first acknowledged the hard work and passion of the other council members. “One of the great attributes of this kind of government is that it creates great council members… To have a city council with five members who work collaboratively together is a tremendous advantage for Rancho Cordova”.

Coming in to both a new year and a new term, Mayor Cooley is excited for the possibilities for Rancho Cordova. The city has 33 million dollars available for road improvements, which will improve both traffic safety and the quality of life. Rancho can also claim a stable business market, especially when compared to the rest of the state. With our many institutions of higher learning, our community is producing an educated workforce, a vital component of a growing city. Mayor Cooley voiced the need for Rancho Cordova community members to communicate pride in Rancho Cordova. Public image of the city is changing for the better, and those who live and work here are the greatest supporters of what Rancho is today.

Mayor Cooley also discussed the future plans for the city. Folsom Lake College is planning a new building near the Mills light rail station. On July 1, “the finger”, an area of land near Costco, will be annexed by the city. Community members are enjoying the new shopping options provided by CVS, Walgreens, Kohl’s, Target, and Ross will soon be moving to a new location.

It is obvious, when hearing Mayor Cooley speak, that he is passionate about the people and community of Rancho Cordova. In closing, Mayor Cooley reiterated what much of his speech already showed. “I’m very honored to serve”.

    Greetings,

My wife, daughter and I have been residents of the Stone Creek Elliot development adjacent to the former Mather AFB for three years now. For us to enjoy a nice restaurant, we must travel outside of the Rancho Cordova area. Granted we have the fairly new Chili’s Restaurant, but nothing really comparable to what Folsom or Citrus Heights has available to its residents.

My question is can we anticipate any nice restaurants such as BJ’s Brewhouse & Restaurant, Ruby Tuesday, (reaching high) Cheesecake Factory, Olive Garden or even a Panda Express?

We enjoy eating out at least once a week. Most of what we have available are fast food establishments. Hopefully these nice restaurants will realize that there are many available and hungry patrons existing in Rancho Cordova.

    Thank you,

    Venson
