Waste Management Rewards Local Businesses for Proper Recycling

Waste Management is proud to announce the launch of the “Recycle Rewards” contest in the cities of Citrus Heights and Rancho Cordova. “Recycle Rewards” awards businesses for properly recycling, and aims to educate business owners on what can and cannot be placed in their recycling containers in an effort to decrease contamination in the local recycling stream, and support the local recycling ordinances.

“Waste Management is committed to providing our customers with environmental solutions that meet both their needs, and the needs of the local community,” said Justin Caporusso, Waste Management Spokesperson. “Education is the key to proper recycling, and providing our customers with financial incentives during this tough economy is a win-win for the environment, and local businesses!”

The “Recycle Rewards” contest is open to all commercial customers receiving both WM waste and recycling collection services within the Cities of Citrus Heights and Rancho Cordova. Contestants simply need to fill out an online entry form found at www.sacramentovalley.wm.com and they are then eligible to win a cash prize of $125, and featured in their local Chamber of Commerce Newsletter! A new prize is awarded each month.

Here’s how the program works:

Starting January 1st 2010, and continuing through December 2010, participating businesses and commercial collection front-load customers will be selected at random each month to receive an evaluation of their recycling container. Each month a business customer name will be drawn, and a Waste Management representative will perform an on-site visual audit of the contestant’s commercial recycling container.

Once the audit is complete, and the recycling container is deemed free of contamination (items that are non-recyclables), the contestant will be awarded a cash prize of $125, and will be featured in an upcoming issue of their local Chamber of Commerce Newsletter. If the selected business does not pass the recycling evaluation, the prize money will roll over to the next month.

The “Recycle Rewards” contest rules are as follows:

Contestants must have Waste Management waste and recycling services;
Contestants must fill out an entry form found at www.sacramentovalley.wm.com authorizing Waste Management staff to evaluate their recycling container.

Contestants waste container must be free of recyclable material, and your recycling container must be free of contamination (non-recyclables) when evaluated.
