I have coached baseball for 23 years and in Rancho Cordova the past 9 seasons. The team I coached this summer consisted of players from the Cordova Lancers High School Team after they graduated from high school. We represented Rancho Cordova in the Big League program under the jurisdiction of District 5 Little League.
We won our division and then were asked to coach the All Star team for District 5. Nine players from my team along with 7 players from other squads made the team. We won several games throughout the tournament and needed to win the last 3 in a row to represent California in the Little League World Series. We won the first 2 games and lost in the championship game to a team from San Jose.
We may have lost that last game but to see these players compete and enjoy playing together after high school was a joy to be a part of. A special thanks goes out to Gerald Guerrero who managed the team and got the team together for one last season. This was a season that I will never forget and I wish these players the best of luck in 2010.
