The California Department of Food and Agriculture has issued a 24-hour pass for reindeer to fly through Rancho Cordova and other California cities, a news release said today.

California Veterinarian Dr. Richard Breitmeyer authorized the pass for nine reindeer, clearing all brand inspection and health requirements in time for the Christmas fly-through. The inspections and health requirements help prevent the spread of disease in animals who come into California, and the pass was issued for only nine reindeer — Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen, and of course, Rudolph.

The pass was issued under the stipulations that the reindeer not commingle with other reindeer while in the state, and that the reindeer not be used for breeding purposes.

“We are pleased and honored to issue the permit to Mr. Kringle,” said CDFA Secretary A.G. Kawamura. “As always, we wish him safe travels as he and his reindeer make deliveries to the good children of California.” The department did not comment on whether Mr. Kringle will be making any deliveries to naughty children in the area.
