Do You Have the Holiday Spirit? Show it Off!
I love Christmas time! I thoroughly enjoy decorating our house, baking cookies, and wrapping presents. I mark the days till Christmas off on a little calendar in our living room every morning for the month of December, and even the dogs have stockings hung by the chimney with care. Our theme music is the Elvis Christmas album, which plays on a fairly regular basis from the final days of November till Christmas evening.
Of all the Christmas traditions I appreciate the most, Christmas lights are near the top of the list. San Diego was the first city in America to have out door Christmas lights garnish their community Christmas tree in 1908. Other cities followed, though it wasn’t till the ’30s that the tree at Rockefeller Center had lights. But it took the popularity of the tract home in the 1960′s for exterior Christmas lights to really gain momentum.
Driving around today, families are sure to find numerous homes in their own neighborhoods that are bursting with holiday spirit. Does your yard boast an over sized snowman or twinkling sets of reindeer? Have you spent hours recreating your version of a winter wonderland, complete with Santa and Mrs. Claus? We’d love to see pictures. In fact, so would all of our fans on Facebook.
To share your pictures, go to our Facebook page and add them there. If stringing hundreds of tiny lights from your gutters isn’t your idea of a great afternoon, but you have a fantastic ornament collection, we’d enjoy seeing that too (or any other super-festive collections).
In a holiday season where many families are concerned about finances, it’s comforting to enjoy the little things, like driving around the neighborhood with hot chocolate and cookies, taking in the holiday splendor of your own neighborhood.
