Local Businesses Give Back to Community Through Holiday Lights Tour

Over 100 local children were filled with holiday spirit last week as they received a full evening of fun and Christmas cheer. For the sixth annual Christmas Lights for Underprivileged Kids event, dozens of youngsters were picked up from various Sacramento area locations in limousines and treated to dinner, a visit with Santa Claus and an evening Christmas lights tour.

On Tuesday, December 8th, Russian-American Media, Coastal Breeze Limousine, and the Slavic Community Center of Sacramento hosted the annual tradition that focuses on children that might not have much this holiday season. The children chosen to participate in the event were from economically disadvantaged families and foster homes.

More than 20 small businesses and 150 volunteers worked together in catering, transportation, entertainment, media coverage and security to make the night a success.

In 2008, nearly 300 children (and a grand total of 15 limousines) participated in the event. Eugene Ivanilov, of Coastal Breeze Limousine, said that though they were able to invite fewer children this year, they were still able to provide the same activities as they have in prior years. The organizers hope that this will continue to grow as it is really a special time for the children.

After dinner, play time and visits with Santa at Chuck E. Cheese in Roseville, the children got back into the limousines, which included stretched versions of a Lincoln Town Car, a Cadillac Escalade, a Hummer and a party bus for a Christmas lights tour.

One incredibly festive neighborhood just north of the Roseville Galleria provided premium light viewing opportunities. Nearly every yard in the neighborhood was decorated with children’s themes of Disney and other cartoon characters. The “oohs” and “aahs” of young people gripping bags with small toys and taking in all the twinkling colors adorning passing yards created a sight to behold.
