Two More Suspects Arrested in Connection With 2008 Timothy Brodie Homicide
One suspect is already awaiting trial for the murder of Timothy Brodie in 2008, and two more have been arrested in connection with the killing.
Shannon Shorter, 33, and Gennel Miles, 27, were arrested Dec. 9 on suspicion of murder, robbery, kidnapping, torture, arson, carjacking and possession of a firearm. Derrick Sam, 31, will go to trial on Jan. 7 for murder, robbery, kidnapping, torture, arson and carjacking charges stemming from the case.
A statement from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said detectives believe the case is the result of a “drug deal gone bad,” and the suspects’ main motivation for the murder was robbery. The victim was allegedly kidnapped on Dec. 19, 2008, the statement said, and he was shot multiple times in a parking lot on Laurelhurst Drive. The victim’s vehicle was found, burned, the next day in Carmichael.
Detectives believe there may be more unidentified suspects involved in the case, and they are urging anyone with information to call (916) 874-5057, (916) 443-HELP or send “SACTIP” and the tip in a text message to 274637. Anyone with a tip can remain anonymous and may be eligible for $1,000 reward.
