Rancho Cordova Gateway Signs Could Soon Get Big Facelift

Rancho Cordova currently has two gateway signs — one located on Folsom Boulevard and another located on Sunrise Boulevard. On Monday, the city unveiled their plans to not only improve those signs, but also possibly add two more.

The current signs were upgraded in 2005 and include logos from local organizations. City planners exhibited several signs from other cities – including those of Redding, El Cerrito and Humboldt — as examples of the styles they are hoping to achieve. A memo from Planning Director Paul Junker noted that the “design and condition” of the city’s current gateways “may not reflect the evolving character of Rancho Cordova as a regional center of activity.”

Four gateway locations have tentatively been proposed: The two current locations, located on Folsom Boulevard near Lincoln Village and on Sunrise Boulevard near Sunriver will remain, and two additional locations will be added. The first proposed gateway site is located east along Folsom Boulevard near Aerojet, and the second site is located south on Sunrise Boulevard in the Grant Line planning area.

City officials met with community representatives in February to discuss options for enhancing the gateway signs, and the next step will be gathering public input on design guidelines and what community organizations should be represtented on the signs. The city will then report back to the City Council in approximately two months, and if the project is approved, city planners will then solicit cost estimates from design consultants and begin fundraising efforts.
