Rancho Cordova Neighborhoods on Lockdown as Authorities Search for Murder Suspect

Authorities spent Thursday afternoon searching a Rancho Cordova neighborhorhood for a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Galt this weekend. Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents are searching for Alfredo Daniel Tafoya. Tafoya is suspected of fatally shooting Efraim Zambrano, 20, and Carlos Montes, 24, at a Quinceanera party.

George Washington Carver School located at 10101 Systems Parkway, Cordova Villa Elementary and Blood Source were all on lockdown for the better part of the afternoon.

Deputies went door to door with K-9 search teams and a Sheriff’s Department helicopter was deployed. The search was called off in the late afternoon after authorities took a man to custody. He was later released.

If you have any information or know the whereabouts of Tafoya, please call the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department at 874-5115.

Update: Alfredo Tafoya was found Thursday evening hiding in an apartment off of Mack Road in Sacramento. No one was injured during the arrest and Tafoya has been taken in to custody. Tafoya will be booked in the Sacramento County Main Jail.
