VSP Vision Care has earned a prestigious Energy Star from the Environmental Protection Agency for reducing their energy use by 27 percent.

VSP’s headquarters, located in Rancho Cordova, have been LEED Platinum certified and have increased their energy efficiency ranking 2 percent over last year. The headquarters currently rank in the 95th percentile of all facilities in the nation for energy efficiency, making all four buildings eligible for the Energy Star.

“VSP is pleased to accept EPA’s ENERGY STAR for our remaining three buildings on campus in recognition of our energy efficiency efforts,” said Steve Hibbs, director of VSP Corporate Services. “We are committed to becoming a model of energy and resource efficiency and this is a great example of the work we continue to do.”

The Energy Star first made its appearance in 1992 and can now be found on many products that adhere to strict energy-saving standards. The Energy Star program aided in saving Americans over $16 billion on their energy bills in 2006 alone, resulting in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 27 million vehicles off the road.

VSP qualified for the Energy Star by reducing their energy consumption 27 percent, reducing their buildings’ operations by six hours, adding high-rating Merv-13 air filters and CO2 sensors to their air filtration systems and implementing a SynapSense Wireless Green Data Center, which will save close to 260,000 kilowatts of energy annually.

“Whether you are running a grocery store, a school, or an office building, getting the most out your energy dollars–while reducing your carbon footprint–just makes sense,” said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson.

A statement from VSP said commercial buildings that earn an Energy Star use 40 percent less energy than typical buildings and release 35 percent less carbon dioxide. More information on VSP’s commitment to energy efficiency, as well as eyecare, can be found at www.seemuchmore.com.
