First Covenant Church will be presenting its 18th annual Broadway-style Christmas musical, “An Evening in December,” from Dec. 2 through Dec. 6 with seven showings throughout the five-day spectacular.

The musical was started in 1992 as a family Christmas event and has exploded in recent years into a regional destination, with nearly 17,000 people attending the 2003 production at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. The musical is now held at First Covenant Church’s own auditorium, and this year’s program is promised to be “over-the-top” with a set in New York City featuring the Radio City Rockettes.

This year’s production is about a young couple that moves to New York City to pursue their dreams, but they find their goals interrupted by news of a baby on the way. The story will take the audience to Radio City Music Hall in New York City, then to Bethlehem to see the first Christmas. The show will be 90 minutes long and will be “filled with comedy, joy, and spectacle designed to delight children and adults alike.”

Tickets cost $9, and the production is scheduled at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 through Dec. 6. First Covenant Church will also hold additional showings at 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 and Dec. 6. Tickets can be reserved by calling (916) 861-1626; for more information on seating, the church has posted a chart on their website. First Covenant Church is located at 10933 Progress Court in Rancho Cordova.
