Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project: Helping During The Holidays and All Year Long

Since 1984, the Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project has been helping law enforcement with the problems of overcrowded jails, and those who are in need by allowing inmates with court ordered work release time to build toys made of wood, and to repair donated bicycles, to be distributed to the less fortunate in the community.

Initially, much of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project’s efforts were focused on the Christmas season, however popularity and growth of the project has allowed it to become a public, non-profit organization, and to provide for less fortunate children, schools, and many other non-profit organizations throughout the entire year.

In addition to making toys and repairing bicycles, the Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project makes wooden bed frames, and is also a Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher, which enables them to provide refurbished computers to families and schools in need.

The Toy Project is gearing up for their 5th Annual Christmas Splash, sponsored by KNCI Radio, and Viking Pools, and held on December 11th, 12th, and 13th at the Westfield Galleria Mall at Roseville, 1151 Galleria Blvd. Roseville, CA 95678 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The event is for raising Christmas dinners, bicycles, and toys for the holidays for families in need, in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County and the city of Rancho Cordova. The event depends not only on toys and food provided by the project, but also on donations from the community, so getting involved is a great and easy way to share good will and cheer to those who may not otherwise have it, especially during the holiday season.

This year, Paul Moen, Director of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project, says the goal is to fill the swimming pool at the event with toys. There are also 60 drop-off locations around town where people in the community can donate.
