Rancho Cordova Ceremony Will Launch International Drive Road Construction
The ceremonial groundbreaking for the International Drive extension that includes the Folsom South Canal Bridge will take place on Wednesday, December 2nd, at 10 a.m. in the vacant lot near the International Drive and Kilgore Road intersection in Rancho Cordova.
The quarter mile extension will be constructed on a currently undeveloped piece of land. When finished, it will be a six-lane thorough-fare, connecting Kilgore Road to Sunrise Boulevard and converting International Drive into a major regional arterial road. The project will include intersection improvements, bicycle lanes, and pedestrian facilities.
The project has regional significance as it will improve mobility and relieve congestion on Sunrise Boulevard and Highway 50 by providing a bypass to the highway between Sunrise Boulevard and Mather Field Road.
The $17 million project will be funded by federal, state, and local transportation funds. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2011. DeSilva Gates Construction is the project contractor.
Participating in the groundbreaking ceremony will be Rancho Cordova officials, including the Mayor, City Manager Ted Gaebler, and Public Works Director Cyrus Abhar.
