The Sacramento Local Agency Formation Commission will be hearing a proposal to annex a portion of Sunrise Boulevard into Rancho Cordova boundaries on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. Public comment will be welcome at the meeting.

If approved, the city’s boundaries will be extended to include Sunrise Boulevard from Highway 50 to White Rock Road, and Folsom Boulevard from Sunrise to Hazel Avenue. The area was originally intended to be part of the city’s boundaries, but issues over the division of taxes between the city and the County of Sacramento prevented the annexation.

The city and county have recently resolved the conflict over taxes in the area, and the county will be receiving 75 percent of sales tax revenues in the area as well as all property tax revenue. The issue has now advanced to LAFCo for approval, and the agency will vote on whether the area is within the sphere of influence of Rancho Cordova.

Rancho Cordova has released an information guide on the process on their website. According to the city, police services will be improved upon annexation, and businesses and property owners in the area will not experience an increase in taxes. Service fees, however, could go up for properties that are either being built or are going to be remodeled to match fees currently charged by Rancho Cordova.

The meeting will be held at the Sacramento County Administration Center, located at 700 H Street in Sacramento. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m., and because the Rancho Cordova annexation item is scheduled for public hearing, the public is welcome to attend to voice their opinions on the annexation.
