Suspect Arrested in Connection with Killing Behind Ross Store
Deandre Brooks, 19, was arrested Monday night in connection with the killing of Juan Carlos Sanchez, 21, on Nov. 21.
Brooks was arrested on suspicion of murder, receiving stolen property, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and probation violation. The suspect was detained after a traffic stop at Folsom Boulevard and Dawes Street, during which a loaded firearm was recovered.
A statement released by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said detectives believe the suspect and victim got into an argument while about a light rail train shortly after 10 p.m. The suspect and victim allegedly left the train and went behind the Ross store at Zinfandel Drive and Folsom Boulevard to fist fight, detectives believe, and Brooks allegedly shot Sanchez during the altercation. The statement also said detectives do not know what led to the original argument.
Detectives are currently conducting interviews and photo lineups in connection with the killing, and Brooks is being held without bail. Brooks is scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 25 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 63 of the Lorenzo Patino Hall of Justice, located at 651 I Street in Sacramento.
