Restaurant Review- Eat a Pita
Eat a Pita has got to be one of the cutest, happiest names for a restaurant ever. As a big fan of Mediterranean cuisine, I was delighted when Eat a Pita opened in Zinfandel Place. There seem to be others who agree, because when my husband and I arrived at lunchtime one afternoon last week, it was buzzing with activity.
The menu is simple but offers quite a bit including: Pita Wrap Combos (with a side and drink), three kinds of combination plates (Gyros, Shawarma Turkey Plate and a Falafel Plate), grilled kabob plates (Lule beef, beef, chicken or mix and match), rotisserie chicken, and salads. They also have a kid’s menu with two options of either half a pita sandwich or chicken nuggets served with fries and a small fountain drink for only $3.99.
I had at first decided on the rotisserie chicken, but was told they were out of it (even though it was only shortly after the noon lunch hour), so instead I ordered the chicken kabob plate (two chicken skewers served with rice, hummus, small Greek salad and pita bread – $9.99). My husband ordered the beef kabob plate ($10.99) which came with the same sides.
While we waited on our food, we noted how open and airy the space is, and that it’s obviously new as it was sparsely decorated. It’s also not a spot to go to for a quiet lunch; with its tall ceilings there is a lot of chatter echo as well as music and a lot of noise coming from the soda machine. Although we sat across from each other at a very small table, we were constantly having to speak up and repeat ourselves to keep up conversation.
When the food arrived, I was hopeful as it was attractively plated up in clear plastic sectioned to-go containers and it smelled delicious. The first thing my husband commented on was that the size of the pieces of meat didn’t really line up with “two skewers of meat” – he joked that maybe the skewers were long toothpicks. He also said the beef was tough and didn’t have much flavor – he needed to salt and pepper almost every bite.
My chicken was flavorful, but the rice was completely flavorless, as was the hummus – which was really disappointing as I really love hummus. The pita bread was quite good.
We both determined that the food was disappointing, and that if we were to compare it to Shirazad (although not completely fair as Shirazad is Persian food), Shirazad’s food is much better AND less expensive.
The staff at Eat a Pita are very nice, and their dessert case looked amazing – there was a chocolate bar/brownie that caught my eye when we were ordering at the cash register, and the person who waited on us said it was a Russian homemade dessert and that it was very good and rich. Maybe some day I’ll have to go back and try it.
I wanted to like Eat a Pita so much, but was disappointed. Have you eaten at Eat a Pita? Please share with us your experience in the comments section.

My daughter and I had lunch there, and I have to agree with you…although, 2 out of 5 is better than I would give though. When we went the service was pretty poor even though it wasn’t crowded. Our servings were generous, that’s the only positive I can give.
Go try the new Mr. Pickles instead…pretty yummy, just not enough seating.
Hi Donna – I’m sorry to hear you had a poor experience as well. It’s especially disappointing when you really WANT to like the food! Did you try one of their desserts?
I’ll have to get over to Mr. Pickles – my husband’s brought it home once or twice but I’ve never been there personally. The dancing pickle on the corner of Zinfandel and White Rock is a hoot!
Yep, was also bummed as its a great location to have some new restaurants, but the mexican place next door suffers from the same acoustic challenges.
Also, be happy you didn’t get a wrap.
If you want a better experience in RC, go to Pita Q at the corner of Bradshaw & Folsom or the fabulous Amore in Gold River (now serving authentic gyros)
Thanks for the feedback and recommendations – I haven’t been to Pita Q since it opened, will have to go back. And I’ve heard great things about Amore and didn’t know they’re serving gyros now – sure appreciate the suggestions!
To show me that pita can be a tasty choice, my daughter took me to Pita Q . I had a very yummy salad and she had a delicious looking pocket sandwich. It was a beautiful day so we ate outside on their cozy patio. So if someone wants a better experiance …I too recommend Pita Q at Bradshaw and Folsom
Thanks for the follow-up Donna, I’m glad you had such a lovely lunch with your daughter. I’ll definitely check it out!
