Pacific Gas and Electric has determined that natural gas imported in to their system was over odorized and is currently in the pipelines. Many people may notice a stronger “gas” smell as the natural gas is moving through the northern California service area over the weekend.
The smell from the extra odorant is expected to steadily dissipate through the weekend. PG&E customers should know that the odorant is safe and is a chemical that is added to gas to help customers detect gas leaks. The odor will dissipate in to the atmosphere.
If calling PG&E, you may experience prolonged wait times for calls and service appointments. For further information, please call PG&E customer service at 1-800-743-5000.
