The Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks has announced that work is now underway to plant trees and shrubs on a portion of an old agricultural field in the Rossmoor Bar of the American River Parkway, located near Rancho Cordova. These trees and shrubs are being planted in cooperation with and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Folsom as part of a multi-year, mitigation project to replace oak woodland that was lost during the construction of the new Folsom Bridge.
The 50-acre site will be planted with native oak woodland trees and shrubs and native grasses and will visible from Rossmoor Drive and along the bike trail of western Rossmoor Bar. The site will be temporarily fenced to protect the new plants from being eaten by deer during the first 3 to 5 years and then the fence will be taken down, to allow all the wildlife and wandering park users a new place to explore.
For any questions about this project, or Rossmoor Bar, please contact the Regional Parks Department at 916-875-6961.
