The Project 680 bike ride  had close to 50 riders and the support of great weather on Nov. 7, and the final tally of funds raised will be announced Nov. 12 at Payless Shoe Source.

The bike ride helped to raise money to buy shoes for homeless children enrolled at the Folsom Cordova Unified School District, and Starbucks and the Rancho Cordova Post came to support the cause. Project 680 has posted a photo slideshow and a Fox40 video of the event on their website.

The shoe drive’s goal was to raise $1,500 for over 100 pairs of new shoes. Ryan Lundquist, the project’s coordinator, said that amount has been exceeded, thanks to the efforts of the community.

“We are so proud of the community,” Lundquist said on the project’s website. “It was phenomenal to see community buy-in for the sake of local students in need.”

Project 680 decided to collect money in lieu of shoes so children could pick out their own pairs at Payless. The organization, as well as the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce, will present a check to Payless Shoe Source at 10697 Folsom Boulevard on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. Project 680 invites anyone who has participated in the shoe drive to attend and celebrate the community’s accomplishment.

Way to go Ryan. That’s the kind of community effort we need from more RC citizens. I cannot believe how much time and energy you donate to help the community. Way to go everyone who donated time, money or efforts. These are the types of events that help really foster and build community pride. Amazing!

Thanks Geoff. There were so many people, organizations, and churches that stepped forward. It’s been amazing to see the community respond to this very important issue. We’re really looking forward to announcing our final numbers tomorrow with the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce.
