The City of Rancho Cordova is moving into action on the potential rezoning of areas along the Folsom Boulevard corridor by holding a meeting with business owners on Nov. 10, followed by consideration from the Planning Commission on Nov. 12.
The City Council met on Oct. 19 to discuss the zoning issues along Folsom Boulevard. As a result of the 2006 Folsom Boulevard Specific Plan, some business owners found their properties rezoned to residential use, and some could neither sell their property nor obtain loans on it because of the new zoning. The Folsom Boulevard Relief Plan was approved for further consideration during the October meeting, and if approved, will change the zoning of those areas back to commercial use for the existing businesses.
The Relief Plan would not interfere with the Folsom Boulevard Specific Plan’s realization in the future. The plan would only apply to existing businesses, so as new properties are built, the residential zoning will take affect again.
The city’s meeting with business owners will take place on Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. in the Community Board Room of City Hall, located at 2729 Prospect Park Drive. The Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the rezoning on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
