Operation Valley Guardian was coordinated by the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement team and involved 16 state, local and federal agencies, including the Rancho Cordova Police Department, and over 160 officers elected to take part in the 10 hour operation on Saturday. The operation was the largest registered sex offender contact effort coordinated in Sacramento County history.
Sheriff spokesman Tim Curran said in a statement that over 1,600 registered sex offenders were contacted and 24 were arrested during the operation. Police also collected information that could lead to 200 additional arrests for violating the terms of their registration, Curran said.
