On September 25th, golfers and non-golfers alike came together to support the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce and a local organization benefiting homeless children in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. Caddyshack Flashback was held at Mather Golf Course and was not only a great fundraiser, but a also a perfect opportunity to network and mingle with other local business professionals.
In an effort to give back to a segment of the community that often sees little support, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be given to Learning Express, a small organization providing homeless services to students in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District.
Federal law requires school districts to define homeless students as “an individual who lacks a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence.” Sadly, the number of students being classified as homeless is steadily growing. The number of homeless students in 2008 was up 30% from 2007 numbers and with homelessness as a whole on the increase, Learning Express is in need of even more support than ever.
Caddyshack Flashback began bright and early at 7:00 a.m. with registration, breakfast and a bloody Mary bar. The tournament tee off began at 9:00 and the golfers were able to show off their skills. At 2:00, the putting, chipping, and bunker contest finals began, awarding a cash prize of $200 to the winner. The afternoon came to an exciting close with the awards and presentation ceremony featuring the winners of the raffle.
With the Rancho Cordova Chamber hosting exciting and meaningful events such as this, it’s a sure sign the upcoming year will be a successful one for the Chamber.
